On October 13, 2023 myself along with 15 cyclists and 5 alternative cyclists, we will hit the road together on a once in a lifetime adventure to ride half way across the United States. While this may sound adventurous, this is a cycling tour with profound intention and purpose. Moving together as a single organism with a goal to infiltrate community health systems buy brining forward tangible community awareness and education to address the Black Infant Mortality. As we make our journey from North Carolina to Louisiana we propose legislators to engage and meet with their community black midwives and our team to discuss and integrate strategic measures to improve Black Infant Mortality outcomes. Our journey will span over two full weeks (Oct 14 - Oct 31) 1000 miles and five states!
1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. Georgia
4. Mississippi
5. New Orleans
6. North Carolina
7. South Carolina
Additionally, we recognize that each state has unique barriers, not only within the communities themselves but the midwives that serve them. As such, we plan to fundraise and donate to each state we travel through while spreading awareness and creating deliberate connections. These funds will be dedicated to the midwives for each state we ride through. We fully discern "we" do not know the needs for community midwives in our travel through states nor will we make assumptions. Therefore, depositing funds into the hands that serve...is what we have committed too. Fundraising will be be open, closed, and maintained by the community midwives not Womb Cycle. We ask for everyone to follow our lead in creating a pathway of financial support and facilitate life long change.
Every family that has experienced a loss has a story to tell, a bent heart, and a memory to be honored. It is my life long commitment to "close the gap" and honor our families.
