The Dream Team
Storytelling is what we do, watch and share our stories!
We would like to encourage visitors to read "why" our cyclists have committed to Bike for Black Babies Inaugural Tour. Visitors may also click on a cyclists individual "fund me" button if they would like to make a donation directly to a specific cyclists.
MimiI ride is to honor my babies both living and sleeping. I ride to honor the precious souls in my family that did not cross over and for all those who did not survive the middle passage. I ride to honor the families that I have walked alongside during the most difficult time of loss. As a midwife it is my responsibility to capture stories, elevate voices of the unheard, and hold systems and structures accountable for the generational harm inflicted on my community.

ShelbyI ride for the fruit of my womb both in this earthly realm and the spiritual realm. I ride for all those who have suffered in silence carrying the weight of the world in their womb. I ride to honor those who came before me and live within me. I ride for those who come after me as I live within them.

StephI ride to honor the babies of each black family that has been affected by the current birthing culture’s violence, bias and willful ignorance of the ways my culture has perpetuated toward black communities. In addition, as a white midwife, this ride is about my responsibility to participate in dismantling the system.

My passion raising awareness about the high infant mortality rate in the black community is fueled by a simple reason - I make black babies! As a doting mother to three beautiful black daughters and a bonus mom to a wonderful black son, I am deeply concerned about the alarming rate at which our babies are not making it. Join me on this journey, as we strive to make a meaningful impact on the lives of these precious babies - past, present and future.

Black babies should grow and evolve into Black youth, and again into adulthood, and again into eldership — well before they transition into the ancestor realm. The rate at which this life cycle can be expected to be cut short is dire and requires ACTION on multiple fronts. As a life cycle facilitator, I’m charged with safeguarding families to transition through sacred life events empowered, dignified, and with the expectation of healthy outcomes. I ride in honor of the families who have a different, heartbreaking and life-altering story to tell.
